so for all the great history and really good sandwiches if you're not already aware of the ordering process don't expect any patience or help from whomever my husband dealt with the other day... literally was told I don't have time for this with alot of attitude because he had been there ONCE and was unaware of the order slips process...1st time a nice lady just took his verbal order... not like he held up the line he just thought he could speak his order to her like the 1st visit... her (2nd lady) customer service sucks because all she could do was expect a piece of paper not actually dealing with a person i guess... maybe next time try saying here sir let me grab this order slip and show you how as you tell it to me if it's that serious to have the damn paper... I guess 30 seconds is to much to ask for to make things easier for a possible return customer... great sandwiches great history mostly great employees
For years I've eaten Genova bread at restaurants throughout Stockton. Finally made it to the mothership in an ancient building on the corner of a residential neighborhood. It's a little hard to find, but definitely worth the effort for a fantastic, old-school Italian deli. Like every similar sandwich shop I visit, it obviously gets busy at lunch, but the wait was very short thanks to a fast, efficient and friendly staff. I had a roast beef sandwich on Dutch crunch and took home a sourdough round.
First time going to Genova bakery. But it definitely won't be the last. The sandwiches that we ordered were delicious & were worth the price that we paid. I had my sandwiched on the milk bread roll & my husband had his on the sliced milk bread. Both the roll & the sliced bread were so go. I wish that we would have bought some bread to take home with us. We will definitely be going back & ordering sandwiches but not forgetting to get some bread to take home. The customer service was great. It was better than I was expecting for such a busy backery / deli. We were greeted the moment we walked in. & Helped with recommendations of what to try out for our first time visit in making our choices for our sandwiches. We were so surprised to find this hidden gem that has been around for 106 yrs in a residential area.
The sandwiches are just okay, they really don't have that many add-ons. The meat choices is where the bread-and-butter is for the store. It's a very small place so it gets packed really quickly. If you want a really good sandwich similar to Geneva then try O'Brien's market, same concept but more toppings.
Historic. This place is as old as my Grandma, I've been coming here 40+ years to get one of the best sandwiches in Stockton. A small location, with shelfs full of nice items, handmade breads/pastas, jelly, wine, and other good stuff. The location is as clean as an old building can be. The staff is friendly, and the sandwiches are made to order. Grab a Genova Sandwich Ticket, and fill it out. Hand it over and have your sandwich made in front of you. They have a great selection of meats, including some premium cuts like salami, coppa, and prosciutto. Grab chips and a drink and make it a meal. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
